: I'm considering purchasing a Merlin Mountain. I want this to be a hassle-free bike.
: I've owned a few quality aluminum frames in the past, but had problems with dings and dents that accumulated over time and made the frames worthless. I'm not a reckless rider and most of the damage occured in slow technical trails where I've had to bail out. I've heard that titanium frames are less susceptable to damage. Merlin owners, please tell me how your frames have held up over the years. Is a Mountain more durable than the XLM due to its thicker tubing or should that not be a concern?
PETE! I hate to pour cold water on Your valid question but like what is a "ding" vs a dent? Your question is most difficult to answere properly because what you consider to be bullet-proof may not be what i would for example consider "a normal contusion". I don't imagine there is any material out there that can take running into trees in stride! Ti might dent under certain circumstances but she won't break! i know this is not an answere to your concern & am looking ahead to hearing from some other riders who may be able to shed a more positive answere to your question. Ride Safe! paul
