In reply to Lee on 3-15 98, I had asked for first hand knoweledge and experience with a SID fork, I recieved a speculitive answer with a lousy suggestion of a fix. The Englund air shock conversion is an unreliable, but still useable, expensive conversion that makes a poor performing Judy SL fork work only slightly better. The Englund product does not address the concern of the inherient flexiness with the resultant poor handling issues. As stated, the White Bros fork handles very well, is basicly indestructable and very reliable within realm of normal use. Too bad about the tonnage though. The SID fork is a race only fork with a really complicated internal design and no external adjustments. The thought of 50 to 70+ PSI air pressure on the seals isn"t so great. But what about the handling?? Maybe the WB fork is the best after all. The trade off of handling for light wieght is apparent.
For the record, the wieght of the SID is 2.58 lbs (1.174 kgs) the White SC-70 is 3.67 lbs ( 1.667 kgs). Thus a difference of 1.08 pounds (493 grams). These are actual wieghts, not the phony claims stated by the manufacturers.
Next question, does anyone have direct experience with the Marzochi Z-2 BAM fork?
