: What does Merlin mean when they reccomend "Type A" Scotchbrite for refinishing. The Scotchbrite I've found at two hardware and one paint stores was graded with a number like steel wool, ie. '0', '00' etc. When I queried Merlin on this, Matt just replied that "Type A" is just what I needed. What pray tell, is "Type A"?

Dear Steve,

I am sorry that you can not find Type A scotchbrite.
Scotchbrite is a 3M product (Nylon abrasive), similar to the
nylon abrasive most people find in their kitchen sinks attached to
a sponge for cleaning dishes.

Scotchbrite, like steel wool, sandpaper, or emery cloth comes in different grits.
Type A Scotchbrite is the finest coarse. We use it to buff the
frame to the final luster..

You may want to try a automotive supply store. Type A Scotchbrite is usually maroon
in color..
