: : What does Merlin mean when they reccomend "Type A" Scotchbrite for refinishing. The Scotchbrite I've found at two hardware and one paint stores was graded with a number like steel wool, ie. '0', '00' etc. When I queried Merlin on this, Matt just replied that "Type A" is just what I needed. What pray tell, is "Type A"?
: Dear Steve,
: I am sorry that you can not find Type A scotchbrite.
: Scotchbrite is a 3M product (Nylon abrasive), similar to the
: nylon abrasive most people find in their kitchen sinks attached to
: a sponge for cleaning dishes.
: Scotchbrite, like steel wool, sandpaper, or emery cloth comes in different grits.
: Type A Scotchbrite is the finest coarse. We use it to buff the
: frame to the final luster..
: You may want to try a automotive supply store. Type A Scotchbrite is usually maroon
: in color..

About scotchbrite type A:\
Try an industrial supply store. In Atlanta, the only distributor I found was Fulton Industrial Supply downtown. The fewest number I could buy was a box of twenty. My heart skipped a beat when I first used it. Be sure to rotate it around the tubing, and not lengthwise which leaves long scratches (but are easily removed when used properly)
Good Luck!
