The simplest solution to keeping cable housings away from the headtube on older Merlin w/downtube cable routing is to run the right shifters housing to the non drive mount and the front derailleur's housing to the drive side boss. Next, criss-cross the S.I.S. cables under the downtube and run them through the correct side of the plastic cable guide located on the underside of the bb shell. This routing of the gear housings is quite common on bikes equipped w/Campagnolo Ergo shifters. The radius of housing is increased which moves the housing away from the material.
To believe that in your lifetime you will wear through a Merlin headtube with your cable housing is comical. Imagine if you were riding a steel frame w/ a fancy paint job or even a nice carbon fiber frame.
