I heard that Hong Kong in the Far East holds the record
for the most
Merlins sold per year in 1996(60-70 Merlins I heard)!
The funny thing is, Hong Kong is not even a MTBiking
friendly city at all.
Aside from the fact that this is a very small British
colony (will be returned to China in less than 4 months
time-July 1st, 1997),there just aren't enough trails
to make the sport that exciting.
There are no decent singletracks, and
most trails are short and off limit to bicyling.
However, the same is true with automobiles.
There are more Rolls, Mercedes, BMWs, Lexus per
sq.mile than anywhere else on earth! It is also
the city of Rolex and a tiny apartment say, 1,000sq,ft;
could fetch over US$1.5million!
No one in the woking class who don't already own any
property prior to the late 80's could ever hope to
in the future.
Most of us are paying (Beverly Hill's rate)too much
on rent. I am paying
US$1,500 per month for my tiny 400sq.ft flat! And a
new Honda Civic costs over US$50,000!
Nevertheless, I wouldn't be surprised if Hong Kong
also has the most MTBikes per sq.mile anywhere on
earth, and that includes Merlins I would guess.
You guys really have it good in America with your
endless trails and friendly bike shops.
Happy Trails
