Yes, the Merlin Extralight is significantly better than the Litespeed Classic. The Classic compares to Merlin Road more than it does to the Extralight. The XL has externally butted tubing, while the Classic does not have butted tubing. Also, Merlins use extremely strong 6/4 alloy drop out, while the Litespeeds use 3/2.5

By the way, Seven Cycles makes a model (Axiom) that sells for the same price as an Extralight, is made by Merlin's ex-employees and has the same beautiful craftmanship and is almost identical to the Extralight in every way, but for the same price it is custom-fitted.
