OK, well assuming the taper on the spindle is the same for your old crankset and the new Record crankset (and this is a big assumption...), are you really going to notice a crankarm that's sitting 5mm further out than your old setup? The only real problem I can see with this is if your front derailleur can't handle throwing the chain out the additional amount to cover the big chainring.
Have you actually tried putting the new Record crankarm(s) on the spindle and seeing how they line up?... Might be worth a try, if you haven't.
