Yours is a great question. I suggest Merlin cannot forever continue to charge what they do for their bikes in light of Lightspeed's prices. I am eager to "update" my 94 Merlin mountain but simply cannot afford to. I am very much attracted by Lightspeed's frames and prices. Seven Bicyles is the new "spin off" of Merlin headed up by Rob Vandermark and 4, 5, or 6 of his colleagues who recently jumped ship at Merlin. I have seen their equivalent to the XLM and it is beautiful and priced competitively with Merlins. I, too, will jump ship from Merlin for a Seven or Lightspeed should Merlin not bring their prices quickly in line with what their competitor's ask. Vote with your pocketbook, laisse faire economics works in our great USA like no other place on earth. Cheers.
