: I think going for more clearance is the most important issue here. I'm 5'11" with a 32" inseam and ride a 16" frame. I get 5" of clearance and it has saved me numerous times. I too have had to move the seat back but have settled on a shorter 120 mm stem as the others stretch me too far forward.
: Perhaps you should try a seat post with layback. This will give you more room in the cockpit plus have the clearance for rough riding, which will give you the best of both worlds.
