: : : What is the deal with the older press in BB? I'm looking at a used Merlin that has this BB setup? Are the BB's easily available and installable by dealers? Are they a more expensive than the threaded BB's?
: : Hi JB,

: : cheapiest solution. Merlin offer a toolset for
: : maintenance (some washers,srews....). The bearings

: : well sorted stores for some bucks.
: : Make it by yourself. The first time you need 2 hours,
: : for replacement, the next time you finished in 15 minutes..
: : Please read the Insider Info at Merlins homepage
: : BB Manuals post 1990
: : Cheers Helmut
: I've been trying to find out where I can buy the tools.
: I've sent 2 or 3 messages to the Merlin contact listed
: on this web site and have yet to get a reply. If anyone
: knows how & where I can purchase the tools, please send
: me a note -> rvat50@email.mot.com
: Thanks,

JB, If you don't want to do the work yourself, any good
bike shop can in stall a new bottom bracket for
under $50. The tools to do it yourself are simple
to make as you go, wood dowels and pvc pipe are good
raw materials. Suggest you buy the special retaining
ring remover.
