: I sweated a few bullets as I recently installed XT V-brakes on my 94 Merlin Mountain. I found that the distance from the brakepost centerline to the centerline of the brake spring insert hole was smaller than that same measurement on the V-brake. Previously, my cantilever brakes had more "give" in their coiled actuation spring allowing an easier insertion into the Merlin spring hole on the frame boss. On the V-brakes the rigid "post" versus the spring end is far less flexible and I could not manage to insert the post into the hole by hand. Only by torguing the brake onto the post was I able to finally get the "post" into the frame boss hole. Sure had a few uneasy moments there. Anyone else have a similar experience. Merlin, what do you think? Any insight here or was mine a singular experience?

Had the same brakes/problem/frustration.
Finally took a needle nose
plier and bent the "post" on the brake slightly
inward to fit the hole. No problems since.
