I, too, own an Extralight (full 1996 Dura-Ace) and have both a set of Spinergys and a set of
32 spoked Mavic Reflex, Dura-Ace hubs 'natch (built by WheelSmith). My experience has been that the Mavics
give a somewhat smoother ride overall. The Spinergys make for a slightly (emphasis on
slightly) stiffer ride, but they are a real rush to ride. If you've got the cash,
buy Spinergys: they accelerate to speed easily, they help make it easy to stay on top of
a gear, they are of high quality constuction, and are virtually maintenance free. One caveat,
if you are going to road race, rather than time trial, I'd race on the Mavics until I was
at least CAT 3 or better; the reason is that it would be painful (physically and financially)
to have a clodish CAT 5 or 4 rider accidently jam his pedal into your expensive Spinergy wheel.
Kind Regards,
