I was going through the same choices at the beginning
of the season. I decided on a Road with Chorus, and Mavic Open Cermanic rims.
The ride is incredible. See if you can find both
models and test them. I searched high and low
but managed to find both. I almost bought the
Heliums but thought they were not worth the money.
The Open Pros are the same rim with four more spokes.
If you plan to do any harsh riding like you suggest,
I would stay away from rims with less than 32 spokes.
Overall, my bikes weighs in at less than 19 pounds (58cm)
when it's fully decked out. Performance is great.
You can't go wrong with either model.
