: : : : I've subtituted my break-set DA'96, with the most recent version DA'98.
: : : : Unfortunately i've experienced some difficulties with the new pads wich have hot given satisfactory performances, even if i've kept the same rims(Mavic Reflex).
: : : : I'd like to know if someone has had the same problem and can help me in finding the most suitable solution.

: : : : Thank you in advavce

: : : Hello Andrea,

: : : There are many things that could be wrong with the brakeset. What kind of problems are you having? Are they not stopping? Are they spongy and weak? Or do they squeak?

: : : I've seen your posts before on here and it seems like you know your bikes inside and out, but some of the problems might be:
: : : 1.) The brakepads aren't toed in. You want the front of the brake pad to hit the rim first... but it should be just a slight difference. On road bikes it's more difficult to do because you might actually have to bend the brake caliper slightly. Be careful if you do this.
: : : 2.) If you're using too much cable housing, or if it still hasn't quite settled in inside the shifter then the brakes might feel weak.
: : : 3.) The new brake pads might need time to settle in. If you clean your rim off from any residue from old pads it might help.
: : : 4.) The last thing that I can think of to help the brake pads settle in is to take a file to them just a little bit... it will take some of the new brake pad gloss off and might help the stopping.

: : : I'm out of ideas, if anyone else can come up with something I'd be curious to know what else could be done.

: : : Good luck, Andrea.

: : : Alex

: : Hi Alex thank you for your reply. your ideas are very good, but the real problem for me is the composition of brake-pads, because, whit the old brake, but the same lever, the same cable, the same rims, all is ok!.

: : what do you think about ?
: : do you know pads compatibles whit DA'97 brake-set?

: : CIAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Andrea.

:
: Hi Andrea,

: Any road bike brake pad will work with '97 DA brake caliper, but you're probably looking for the cartridge insert. I know that Cool Stop makes cartridge inserts for mountain bikes, XT and XTR compatible, so they might possibly make such a product for road bikes as well.

: Good luck,

: Alex
