It's my opinion that there will always be some degree of creaking or ticking from the bottom bracket area because of the dissimilar metals. I've tried nearly everything, from teflon tape, to extra helpings of grease, and nothing has worked entirely. Chasing and facing is a great idea and using a fair amount of grease on both sets of threads seams to have quieted the creaking the most.
